  Kings Cross Steelers

The world's first rugby club for gay and bisexual men was founded in 1995 with its aim “to allow gay and bisexual men the chance to play competitive union code rugby”.

The club has a membership of over 150 players and supporters, which enables a full fixture list for both the 1st XV, mainly league games where they play in the Essex 3 league of the English County Championships, and the 2nd XV, which plays more social rugby against teams throughout the South East. The 1st XV also compete in the Powergen Junior Vase competition, whilst the 2nd XV are entering their first domestic competition this year in the shape of the Essex President's Cup.

The 1st XV also compete in the InterClub Challenge which is an annual competition between King's Cross Steelers, Manchester's Village Spartans RUFC and Edinburgh's Caledonian Thebans RFC.

Throughout the season there are plenty of games to enjoy for Steelers supporters and they continue to make a huge contribution to the life of the club. As well as cheering the team on from the touchline, they carry out many of the vital tasks and logistical support needed by the teams such as first aid, transport, hospitality and administration.

In view of this commitment to the club, the supporters elect a Secretary to sit on the club's management committee and represent them in the running of the club. We are one of the few clubs to recognise the contribution of the supporters in this way and have been commended by the Rugby Football Union for our approach to 'valuing the volunteer'.

The club is always on the lookout for both talented players and those whose talent has yet to be discovered (or has been lost in the mists of time!). Or come and cheer the teams on at a game or enjoy our varied social programme. You will be made most welcome.

The club especially welcome adults with little or no playing experience, and have a dedicated development coach to bring you up to speed before joining the full squad.  For those attending university or on low incomes there is a Metropolitan Police sponsored bursary scheme.

For those who would rather just watch an exciting game of rugby, we have one of the largest team of supporters at our level, with regular 3 figure attendances at home games.
