Man raped in London sauna
Tuesday 14  March 2006

Police are investigating an alleged male rape in the Pleasuredrome Sauna following an allegation by an 18 year old man who says he was attacked at the venue on Sunday.

Shortly after the alleged incident was reported to police officers attended the sauna and closed it temporarily while a 24 year old suspect was arrested inside.

The popular sauna in Waterloo is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and boasts cruising areas, a maze, dark rooms, spas and private rest rooms although the police have not said within which area the alleged rape took place.

A police spokesperson said; “The venue was temporarily closed because it was believed that the suspect was still inside. With the full co-operation of the management and patrons, the suspect was subsequently identified and arrested.”

“A 24-year-old man was taken into custody at Kennington police station where he remains at this time.”

Police
thanked staff at the sauna for their co-operation and said witnesses could contact them in complete confidence.

Anyone with information should call Lambeth Police’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Liaison Team on 020 8649 2099.
