Your best shave ever

Taking the pain out of shaving

Most men see shaving as a chore but there are a few simple measures you can take to make it a more skin friendly-experience .

Electric shavers while quick are nearly always harsh on the skin and tend to pull the hair. If you are really addicted to electric shaving, try a pre-shave lotion to soften the hair first. However a wet shave is by far the best way to get a close shave that will be kind to the skin.

Make sure the beard is thoroughly wet to swell and soften the hair. Use warm water to open the pores.

Massage your shaving cream into the area to be shaved. An oil or cream will give the best results and be a lot less drying. Foams may give a great lather but can really dry and irritate the skin.

Make sure your razor is really sharp.

Shave in the same direction as the hair growth. Use short strokes and take care over the neck and throat.

Rinse your razor in HOT water (especially important if you are using a shaving oil.)

Finish shaving by rinsing off excess shaving cream or oil with cool water. Ideally use a toner after wards to remove any residue, close the pores and refresh the skin.

Use an after shave balm on the shaved areas if it feels irritated. Use a moisturiser over the rest of the face and neck to keep skin firm and supple.
